There are many unexpected causes of breakouts, regardless if it’s on your face or body, and your mattress could be one of the culprit. Acne is caused by a combination of iFabric sofas look great and they can be especially cosy. Only when they are not dirty! It can be a tedious process to clean your sofa if you don’t know where and how to start. But don’t let messy spills and tough stains keep you away from cleaning up. Follow this simple step by step guide on how you can clean up your sofa.

1. STEAM YOUR SOFA

Using a handheld garment steamer, go over the entire sofa allowing the steam to touch and penetrate the fabric to kill the bacteria and dust mites.

2. VACUUM IT

Use your vacuum upholstery attachment, and run it over the entire sofa including the cushions. If the cushions are removable, take them off and vacuum the fabric underneath, going as far under the back and arms as your vacuum can reach. Then with crevice tool, go along the seams, around any buttons, and along the trim.

3. CHECK FABRIC CARE LABEL

Check the fabric care label on your sofa to determine what kind of cleaning solution is safe to use on the fabric. Failing to use safe cleaning products could damage your sofa permanently.

  • W is the easiest to clean and means water-based cleaners are okay to use
  • W/S means that either water- or solvent-based cleaners are safe
  • S means only solvent-based cleaning chemicals should be used
  • X means do nothing more than vacuum or brush the fabric

4. SPOT CLEAN STAINS

Once you figure out what type of cleaning solution is safe to use for your sofa, then you can start to tackle stains. For safety, always do a spot test on a hidden area first. And always use the blotting action instead of rubbing or scrubbing.

5. BANISH BACTERIA AND ODORS

Once your sofa is clean and dry, you can get rid of lingering odors and germs with fabric sanitising spray. Alternatively, you can always use baking soda to remove odors. Sprinkle a thin layer over your sofa, let it sit for a couple of hours before vacuuming.

There’s a step that is missing from the above guide which is deep cleaning. For deep cleaning, it is highly recommended to call in the professional as they have the right cleaning tools for a safe and thorough cleaning.
